The daughter of Zambian President and councillorship aspirant for Nkoloma Ward in Chawama Constituency in Lusaka, Tasila Lungu, has recently challenged women to vie for leadership positions as it is the only way to make society well balanced.
Ms Lungu, said development of a nation demanded efforts from men and women working together as partners because women also had useful ideas.
She said a woman’s role was missing in national development hence the need for more women to take part in the elections.
Ms Lungu said that although women realised late that they had an important role to play in politics, their participation was still cardinal.
“A woman brings a different perspective to politics and I must say that we are actually late. It should have already happened because we need every member of the society to be represented,” she said.
The aspirant encouraged her fellow women to take part in the elections because it was a good platform for them to bring development.
She is currently running a project to give shoes to less privileged children in different rural communities with the help of Anchor of Hope charities, saying she has passion for children and that was why she undertook the project in which 3,000 pairs of shoes had already been distributed. Rural areas were picked because there, children made long trips to get to school.
Ms Lungu was hopeful that the shoes would encourage young people to remain in school.
