President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya on Tuesday evening left for a G7 Summit that will hold in Quebec, Canada. This year’s G7 Summit in Quebec, will last for two days, Friday and Saturday. This summit will focus on economic growth, climate change and security. President Kenyatta will address the summit on issues of the blue economy and the environmental management.
The G7 countries are; United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and France. According to Monica Juma, the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary, the summit is very important to Kenya owing to the fact that it will aid President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ‘Big Four’ agenda to come to fruition. The Summit in her statement is one of the exclusive meetings of world leaders and it would among other things discuss the issue of gender inequality, climate change, equity, the blue economy and security.
More so, she posited that the summit will try to find a solution to the inequality gap by adopting innovative ways for women to be carried along in production process. The summit will try to proffer solution to women participation in policy making in the world because they boast of the highest number in the world population. “Gender equity has been advocated for a long time now and we all understand it is a fundamental concern of human right, the involvement of women to participate in society’s policy making. Women empowerment enhances economic growth.
In essence, the G-7 summit’s main agenda is gender equality according to the host country, Canada. Monica Juma posited that peace and security are also sacrosanct to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda for meaningful development in Kenya.
