Presidents of Uganda and Tanzania have recently partnered towards the construction of a crude export pipeline that would pump Ugandan oil for international markets.
The crude oil pipeline project is a 1,445km construction linking from Hoima in Uganda to Tanzania’s Indian Ocean seaport of Tanga and is set to be completed in 2020 while it commences in 2018, taking about 36 months for the construction. The project worth 3.55 billion US dollars is capable of transporting 200,000 litres of oil in one day with the prospect of creating between 6,000 and 10,000 jobs all through the construction process and beyond.
According to the Senior Vice President of Africa at Total Exploration and Production, Guy Maurice, the project will become the “longest electrically heated crude oil pipeline in the world.”
The two presidents have called for the speedy completion of the project calling on three joint venture partners to speed up construction of the pipeline.
“We don’t need to delay the completion of the project for almost three years. They can do it even night and day to ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible,” Magufuli said.
“Act with big speed and make sure you finish this project before 2020.”
