The Presidents of Zambia, Uganda, and Malawi, have pledged their support to end the issue of child marriage in Africa by 2030. President Edgar Lungu of Zambia, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Peter Mutharika who were present at the “END Child Marriage” event organized by UN Women in New York, admitted to the challenges of child marriage in Africa.
According to President Lungu, the issue of child marriage has been persistent and is an aged long affair in Africa which has denied young girls the freedom to their rights.
Every child must be empowered to reach their highest potential in life said President Mutharika,
“We cannot harvest the best potential unless we stop early marriage,” he added.
The African Union Social Affairs Commissioner Amira Elfadil called on all men and the youth to participate in ending child marriage in Africa.
