Tyla: The Reigning Queen of Popiano

Meanwhile, Tyla, the “Queen of Popiano,” celebrated a significant milestone—the first anniversary of her self-titled album. Rising to fame with her debut single Getting Late in 2019, it was her 2023 smash hit Water that propelled her to global recognition. Her music seamlessly fuses pop and amapiano while incorporating elements of R&B and Afrobeats, establishing her as a defining figure in the Popiano genre.

Tyla’s artistic journey has been crowned with accolades, notably winning a Grammy for Best African Music Performance in 2024, further cementing her place in the industry.

The Crown Prince’s Celebrations

It was a week of double celebrations for the Crown Prince of Afrobeats, Rema, as he marked six years since his debut in the music industry and the third anniversary of his critically acclaimed debut album, Rave & Roses. The album earned him several accolades, including becoming the first African album to be certified Gold in the United States by the RIAA.

Rema’s music blends traditional Afrobeats with modern styles such as trap, hip-hop, and EDM, helping to redefine the genre and appeal to a new generation of listeners.

Oxlade’s Rise

Oxlade marked five years since the release of his debut EP, Oxygene, which introduced listeners to his dynamic vocal abilities and unique sound. His music blends traditional Yoruba influences with contemporary styles, showcasing the richness and diversity of African music.

In 2022, he released his viral hit single Ku Lo Sa, which gained massive international attention, topping charts across Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. The song’s success introduced Oxlade to a global audience, solidifying his place in the Afrobeats scene.

His growing recognition led to collaborations with international artists, including Camila Cabello, who featured on the official Ku Lo Sa remix, and Major Lazer. These cross-genre fusions have helped break cultural and geographical barriers, expanding Afrobeats to new audiences and fostering international collaborations.
