The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) was recently conferred with the African Regulator of the Year Award at the just-concluded 13th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) presentation ceremony, organised by the African Leadership Magazine. The ABLA presentation ceremony was a key highlight of the 8th ALM Africa Summit, which took place on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at The Dorchester Hotel, London, United Kingdom, with the theme New Opportunities for African Investments, Partnerships, and Collaborations.
The African Regulator award is in recognition of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards’ efforts and achievements in strengthening the supportive Quality Infrastructure (QI) of Tanzania for the sustainable economic growth of the country.
Over the years, the Tanzania Bureau of Standards has effectively protected the public from food risks and promoted public health by strengthening frameworks that guide the development, enforcement, and implementation of standards, quality management systems, laboratory testing capacity, and accreditation.
The award was received by Prof. Othman Chande, the Board Chair, on behalf of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), and the Director General, Dr. Athuman Ngenya.
The African Business Leadership Awards ceremony attracted high-level business leaders and policymakers, including Lord Dolar Popat, a Member of the UK House of Lords and the British Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Rwanda and Uganda; Baroness Sandy Verma, Member of the UK House of Lords; Hon.
