Leckton Moris, a student in Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, has commenced a unique project which looks to fund the provision of desks for primary school pupils in Dar es Salaam Region, with the help of his friends.
Morris who grew up sitting on the floor to receive lessons in school during his younger days decided to make learning more comfortable for other children. According to him, his heart ached to see young children suffer the same lot as a result of inadequate facilities.
The young Tanzanian started out by visiting Temeke primary school to identify the needs of the pupils. He discovered that majority of the pupils sat on bare floors to receive lessons in different classes.
Although the government was calling for donations to help upgrade the facilities of some primary schools, Morris had decided to give back to his society in his own way.
He went ahead to speak with a few friends who joined him to raise funds to complement the government’s effort towards providing infrastructure.
Their target was to raise Sh24 million but with the help of some contributors, they got Sh584, 000.
