As part of efforts towards affecting the lives of those in rural communities and as a fulfillment of 2015 campaign promises, the government of Tanzania has recently commenced the construction of a $25 Million USD water project to serve at least 26,000 people in Longido District, Arusha Region of the country.
Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa laid the foundation of the project. Water will be sourced from the Siha District of Kilimanjaro to the Longido water server to produce potable water for the residents.
According to the minister, the aim of this project is to end water shortage in Arusha and increase its access which is currently at 15%.
Villages including Engikareti, Oltepes, Orbomba, Longido, and Ranchi are the major beneficiaries of the water project at its completion.
He also claimed that the government has decided to up its game in order to implement the promised ruling party’s 2015 election manifesto by improving social services and providing basic amenities especially in rural areas, improvement of roads, education and health services.
Therefore he told the contractors in charge of the construction to accomplish the project on time and up to standard, as stipulated in the contract.
