A South African child born with HIV has been off drugs for eight and half years and has shown no signs or symptoms of being infected.
The child who was infected by the standard way unborn children get infect (mother-child) was subjected to a clinical study immediately after birth.
The child who was given standard anti-HIV drugs and treated for 40 weeks as soon as he was born and left empirically to see how long the virus would stay suppressed, has not needed to take drugs for eight and half years.
The director, US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci who was part of the study explained that although the virus could not be grown, it is still present in the child’s system on molecular examination.
Could this be another breakthrough in the field of medicine?
