Seplat Energy Plc, a leading Nigerian independent energy company, has reached a significant milestone by achieving ISO 26000 endorsement, further cementing its dedication to social responsibility. The company, listed on both the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE), has embarked on a journey towards social responsibility excellence, culminating in this prestigious recognition.
The ISO 26000 journey, initiated in September 2021 and concluded in 2023, highlights Seplat Energy’s commitment to operating in a socially responsible manner while respecting society, the environment, and the communities it serves. Mr. Roger Brown, the Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy Plc, emphasised the importance of social responsibility to the company’s long-term success, stating, “We recognise that social responsibility is integral to our business strategy and essential for long-term success. This recognition has intensified our commitment to create value in the communities where we operate through high-impact corporate social initiatives.”
The endorsement underscores Seplat Energy’s commitment to sustainability. Mr. Brown further commented, “Sustainability is at the heart of our business. The two-year journey to this certification has been well worth it, and it shows our unwavering commitment to sustainability. The unveiling of the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Guidance Management Self-Declaration was a collaborative effort between Seplat Energy and the International Network for Corporate Social Responsibility (INCSR), an international team of Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CS&R) Consultants and Corporate Human Rights Advocates working to promote best practices in sub-Saharan Africa.
Mr. Eustace Onuegbu, the President and Lead Consultant of INCSR, lauded Seplat Energy’s achievement, describing the ISO 26000 certification as a detailed and meticulous process that reflects the company’s true dedication to social responsibility.
Mr. Samson Ezugworie, the Chief Operating Officer of Seplat Energy, echoed the sentiment, stating, “This milestone is a landmark achievement and launches Seplat Energy into the global league of social responsibility.”
Mrs. Chioma Afe, the Director of External Affairs and Social Performance at Seplat Energy, reiterated the company’s commitment to social responsibility, stating, “Social responsibility is part of our strategy; so, getting endorsed further verifies and validates that we truly live our strategy, given all the work that the company has put in over the years.”
