New York, USA Senator Barr Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has been awarded the African Leadership Legislative Excellence Award at the 2024 International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL). This event brought together influential leaders from Africa and the Caribbean to focus on transformative governance and partnerships.
Senator Katung, a veteran public servant and legal expert, boasts over 30 years of experience in governance, corporate law, and public policy. His distinguished career includes serving both as a Senator and a Member of the House of Representatives, where he has championed legislative reforms in education, healthcare, and rural development.
One of Senator Katung’s notable achievements is securing ₦1.6 billion in federal support for ginger farmers in Kaduna State, demonstrating his commitment to agricultural development. Additionally, he led proactive responses during the diphtheria outbreak in his constituency, underscoring his dedication to public health.
In his pursuit of community development, Senator Katung has initiated several projects, including ICT training centres and solar-powered street lighting, to enhance infrastructure in rural areas. His passion for education is evident in his scholarship programs, which have provided opportunities for many students in Kaduna.
Senator Katung has also held executive roles, serving as Commissioner of Finance and Water Resources in Kaduna State, where he managed fiscal responsibilities and resource allocation with distinction.
