· Rwanda and Canada agree on a partnership for environmental management to tackle climate change in both countries.
· Minister of Environment Vincent Biruta and Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna signed the agreement on Monday in Montreal to seal the partnership deal.
· The deal is centred on sustainable development as regards climate change, green economy, sustainable urban wetland management and environmental compliance and enforcement for environmental safety.
According to Minister Biruta, both countries will share skills and knowledge and will partner on capacity building and training to facilitate sustainable development.
“This Memorandum of understanding is a way to put into action what we have agreed (in as far as) reaching the targets of Paris Agreement and other international conventions on climate change. So we can work together and make sure that programme is implemented and show the way to others.”
“Proud to announce today that the #RwandaGov and the Canada will work together for the @ActionClimatique and the protection of the environment,” Minister McKenna tweeted.
“Climate change is a global problem requiring an international solution,”
“We have a huge opportunity to work together,” McKenna added.
