Qatar is interested in strengthening trade and economic relations with The Gambia, Qatari Ambassador, Mohamed Nasser Al-Kaabi says.
The Arab nation and Gambia has enjoyed a cordial relationship for about two decades and there is need to strengthen the consolidated gain registered over the years, the Qatari diplomat told Gambia’s local newspaper, Daily Observer.
We need to uphold this momentum and respect the agreements between our two countries through the embassies. This, I believe, will help a lot to uphold this cordial relationship,” he said.
Al-Kaabi however stated that despite the vast investment opportunities presented by the West African nation, some of the country’s resources are still largely unexploited.
According to him, these unexploited resources make the country more economically viable for attaining rapid development.
“The Gambia has a lot of fish, vegetable and different kinds of fruits which can be exported. I hope The Gambia will be a great country in the future if it can explore and use what they have,” he stated.
On the areas where his country hope to foster trade with the country, Ambassador Al-Kaabi said that the State of Qatar through its Banjul embassy is ready to enhance the rapid development of any sector of The Gambia’s national economy, but cautioned that this would be based on the urgent needs of the country.
He also hinted that the State of Qatar is willing to help develop the Gambian in the area of tourism and hospitality and that his country’s national airline, Qatar Airlines is hoping to make a direct flight available to The Gambia to make the West African nation more attractive to the Qatari investors.
