President Museveni Woos Bollywood Film Stars

The Ugandan government is wooing film makers drawn from Bollywood, India, who have been advised by President Yoweri Museveni to promote the country’s beauty and investment friendly status through their work with a promise the government will weigh in with support.

A statement released from State House said Musevini urged Bollywood actors, led by Bharat Dabholkar, who are currently visiting Uganda to bring more tourists from India to Uganda so that they could enjoy the country’s beautiful culture, nature and beautiful weather.

“The linkages between Uganda and India have the potential to boost trade and investment. The huge population of Africa, China and India is a huge potential for the future economic development of the world,” part of the statement reads.

Mr. Bharat Dabholkar who is a movie director, actor, writer and advertising expert informed the President that they want to promote Uganda as the tourist destination for Indians.

“We want to promote Uganda as the tourist destination for Indians as well as promoting it for filming Bollywood movies where Ugandans will participate,” he said.

 

Hindi cinema commonly known as Bollywood is the Indian Hindi language film industry based in Mumbai, Maharashtra India. It is one of the world’s largest centres of film production.

Mr. Bharat said they have plans to bring big film tourists to Uganda saying that film tourism will be a big deal.

Ugandans have featured in several movies including the more recent Black Panther that has won numerous awards.

Uganda’s High Commissioner to India, Grace Akello, who accompanied the delegation said Uganda’s beauty is a great potential for film-makers and will open up opportunities for many Ugandans in terms of job creation.
