The President of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Hage Geingob will receive the African Excellence Award for Gender today, 5th of June, 2018 in the presence of Her Excellency President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, in Windhoek. He will be awarded in his home country by the Gender is My Agenda Campaign (GIMAC) network. This is to reward him for his unrelenting effort in creating a standard structure for the promotion and protection of women’s rights in Namibia.
There have been noticeable changes and an all round improvement in under his administration. Just like Presidents Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia, Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Armando Guebuza of Mozambique, he is awarded this distinction because of his outstanding input towards gender equality.
The African Excellence Award for Gender celebrates African leaders, who have made promoted gender quality, as recommended by DSGEA. It was established in 2005 by Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) and its Panafrican Center for Gender, Peace and Development (PAC), in partnership with the GIMAC network.
