The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in a generous show of magnanimity, has donated his salary for the month of November 2018 (equivalent of 5,000 USD) to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, as his contribution into a fund set up at the National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre (RPSBC).
President Akufo-Addo who was on a tour of the Greater Accra Region stopped over at the hospital to commission a new facility for the RPSBC. He expressed his appreciation to Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah who heads the team at the centre, for their exceptional dedication to saving lives and putting smiles on the faces of their patients.
Established about 21 years ago, the centre treats patients suffering from acute burns and its complications, birth defects including cleft lip and palate and hand anomalies, injuries to nerves, tendons and blood vessels, complex wounds, and skin cancers.
Over the years, it has recorded more than 140,000 out-patient visits and more than 15,000 admissions. It has also carried out more than 25,000 surgical operations.
