New York, USA— Olive Birungi Lumonya, an esteemed leader in Uganda’s corporate, NGO, and government sectors, has been honoured with the prestigious Global Female Leadership Impact (GFLI) Award at the Global Power Women Yearbook (GPWY) 2024 event. As the Deputy Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Lumonya is celebrated for her remarkable contributions to leadership development and her commitment to empowering women through mentorship.
The Global Power Women Yearbook (GPWY) 2024 event took place on 25th September 2024 at the Graduate Centre, City University of New York (CUNY), under the theme “Advancing the Transformative Power of Technology through Women’s Lens: Shaping the Future of Business and Governance.” Organised by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD) in collaboration with Amazons Watch Magazine (AWM), the event brought together influential women leaders from around the globe to celebrate their achievements, share insights, and discuss the pivotal role of women in shaping the future of business and governance through technology.
Leadership Experience and Advocacy
With over 25 years of leadership experience, Mrs. Lumonya has significantly influenced various organisations throughout Uganda. Her dedication to advancing women’s leadership was recognised when she received the Africa Woman Leader Award in 2021 in Mauritius, honouring her extensive contributions to organisational growth and philanthropic work as a volunteer.
In her ongoing mission to give back to society, Mrs. Lumonya launched an executive and leadership mentoring program for women in partnership with CoachCoegi. This initiative aims to nurture the next generation of female leaders by providing them with the necessary skills and support to excel in their respective fields. Her quarterly online webinars have successfully reached over 3,000 participants, making a lasting impact on women’s professional development.
Board Engagement and Corporate Governance
Mrs. Lumonya is recognised as one of the few accomplished women in corporate governance, having begun her board service at the age of 30. Her extensive experience includes serving as Chairperson of the Board of Directors at FINCA Uganda and holding board positions at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority and UAP-Old Mutual. Her commitment to corporate governance and leadership continues to set a standard for excellence and representation of women in decision-making roles.
