Nigeria’s U17 national team kept alive once fading hopes of qualification for the 2019 U17 Africa Cup of nations after a gallant effort yielded a 5-1 victory for the coach Manu Garba tutored side who bounced back in style after a 3-2 defeat to Burkina Faso on match day 1.
The Nigerian side raced into a 4-0 halftime lead and thereafter extended the lead to 5-0 before a consolation strike handed the baby Elephant a goal in the encounter. The victory for the Nigerian U17 boys took them top of the group and will simply await the result of the second group stage game between Burkina Faso and Ivory-Coast slated for Sunday to give a definitive standing and ranking of countries in the group.
The top two teams will advance to the semifinals where they play the top two teams from group A for a place in the final and the overall winner pick the ticket to represent West African football union (WAFU) zone B at next year’s Africa U17 cup of nations which also serve as qualifiers for the 2019 FIFA U17 world cup.
