Women Farmers Association of Nigeria in Lagos has recently appealed to the Federal Government to provide their members with sophisticated tools, to check stress in farming.
Mrs Tai Gabriel-Olaiya, the National President of the association, stated that women needed to be encouraged.
According to her, agriculture is the new oil in Nigeria and a surer way to job creation, revenue generation and food security.
“The government should create a fund and other support programmes such as trainings for women, to encourage them. At the moment, the association has about 5,000 members across the country. Although there are other women associations but the challenges are the same”.
“Women account for up to 40 per cent of the number of major farmers across the country, while those involved in the processing of farm produce are even more”.
