As part of efforts towards eradicating breast cancer in Ghana, an ongoing breast cancer screening which has been on since past two years consecutively, have again gathered over 700 women in neighbouring communities, offering them a free breast screening exercise.
This exercise is an initiative of a group of women called the Manganeses ladies; they are young women working in the Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMC) and have been sold out to investing in the communities they operate.
According to the Secretary of the group, Mrs Cynthia Tetteh, the recently concluded breast cancer screening exercise sponsored by GMC gathered women from surrounding communities of the company including Anonakokrom, Charlekrom, Tamso, Kwamenakrom, Akyempim, Bankyim, Senyakrom and Akyem in the Western Region with an expense of Gh¢10,000.00.
The women were provided with knowledge on causes and symptoms of breast cancer and were also cautioned on the need for personal hygiene.
The exercise was a huge success and it left notes of commendation from the communities to the Manganeses ladies.
