. . .to be honoured with the African Leadership Excellence Award

The African Leadership Magazine’s Good Performance Polls for Nigeria’s Best Performing Public Institution ended on Thursday with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) emerging the Best Performing Public Institution in Nigeria as winner of the polls with 32.5 percent of the total vote cast, closely trailed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as the first runner-up with 17.5 percent of the vote cast.
The two leading agencies, were closely followed by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC); Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), with 15 percent and 10 percent of the total vote cast to sit at the third and fourth positions respectively. The trio of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) maintained a spot, with 5% of ther total vote cast to tie at fifth position.
The poll, which is tagged, Good Performance Poll on Nigerian Public Institution, is one of the strategic engagement tools of the African Leadership Magazine aimed at engendering healthy competition, promoting good performance, and fostering excellent service delivery among public institutions in Nigeria.
Nigeria’s over 400 parastatals, agencies, and departments of government, play a strategic role the formulation and execution of policies for the overall good of the country. The civil service all over the world serves as the engine room for the growth and development of each country, hence the need to ensure efficiency in services delivery. These top seven agencies are therefore Nigeria’s Best performers as adjudged by Nigerians who have befitted from their services. They have distinguished themselves in services delivery, demonstrated accountability, zero tolerance for corruption, unalloyed commitment to their mandate and daily pursuit of excellence.
The Good Performance Poll becomes necessary as a credible and veritable means to recognise and commend the Public Institutions and their leadership who have in the last one year made a difference, in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s change mantra and zero-tolerance for corruption, to carry out their core responsibilities, implementing policies and projects, to improve the lives of the people, and foster growth and development of the country.
The Magazine leveraged its robust offline and online engagements – with about 2.2 Million daily online post reaches and over 400,000 Monthly magazine circulation to organise the poll to identify the 5 Top Performing Public Institution in Nigeria based on any of the following three criteria: Firstly, the public institution that has been accountable and transparent in carrying its mandate in line with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s posturing of Zero-tolerance for corruption; secondly, the public institution that has been ingenuous and innovative in its processes, systems and procedures, positively delivering on its mandate, as it affects the citizenry; and thirdly, the public institution that has in the last one year executed developmental projects or policies that have enhanced the lives of the people of Nigeria.
In announcing the polls, Dr Ken Giami, the publisher of the Magazine said, “in spite of the challenges and criticisms at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in recent times, the emergence of the electoral body as the best performing Nigerian public institution is quite significant and commendable. It means Nigerians recognise the efforts of INEC as it strives and commits itself to conducting credible and transparent elections in Nigeria.”
The Winners of the Poll will be formally decorated with the prestigious African Leadership Excellence Award as 5 Top Performing Public Institutions in Nigeria, during the International Summit on Public Accountability and Transparency in Africa, billed for 8th-9th December, 2016 in Pretoria-South Africa. The winners would also be presented with endorsement from various US State’s and non-state actors, and hosted to a regional platform for knowledge sharing, international interactions, lively thought-provoking discussions and opportunity to query and challenge assumptions surrounding developments in emerging economies, amongst Africa’s leading public institutions and multinational organizations. This is no doubt a further validation and commendation for the outstanding performances of these public institutions, in spite of the monumental challenges being faced by the country today.
A Special Edition (December) of the African Leadership Magazine shall be published, containing an interview with the winners, detailing the successes of the institutions and their contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria.
