Ethiopia: Humanitarians Provide 2 Million Birr Aid for Drought Victims

The money was solicited from various segments of the Society with a view to providing health and social services to drought victims.

Over two million Birr, collected to support drought victims from various segments of the society, has been handed over to the Ethiopian Red Cross Society.

Handing over the money, Public Humanitarian Support Coordinator Preacher Girma Wondimu said that the money was solicited from various segments of the Society with a view to providing health and social services to drought victims.

Preacher Girma urged the public to lend their hands for the drought victims to protect them from the burdens of the natural disaster.

Receiving the donation Society Executive Secretary Firehiwot Worku said that currently many people in rural areas are facing flood, land degradation and soil erosion and are in need of support.

As a result, she said the public should extend its contribution for the Society to provide the victims with the emergency support.

The Society is working to reach out the victims who are not reached by the government, she said, added it has attached due attention to protect citizens from such natural disaster.

She added that while the Society has been collecting 50,000 USD so far and about 56 million Birr was secured in the last 15 days alone.
