In what seems to be a major cabinet reshuffling Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed has appointed a new Governor for the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE),
in the person of Dr. Mihretu Mamo. Mamo who took over from Dr. Yinager Dessie was Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Investment Holdings – the government investment arm.
The prime minister’s office also announced the appointment of seven ministerial positions as he replaced four ministers who have been seen off by the council of ministers.
Eng. Habtamu Tegegn has replaced Eng. Takele Uma as Minister of Mines and Petroleum while Dr. Alemu Sime becomes minister of transport and logistics, replacing Dagmawit Moges.
Dr Girma Amente has taken over the Agriculture Minister post from Ambassador Oumer Hussien while Alem Tsehay Powlos replaced Teferi Fikre as chief of the Prime Minister’s office and Minister of Cabinet Affairs.
In Addition, the PM has also appointed Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie, who finished his term as Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the United Nations, as political policy advisory Minister, and Daniel Kibret as social affairs advisory Minister.
Former Ethiopian ambassador to Kenya Melese Alemu has also been appointed as Democratic System Building Coordination Division Coordinator with the rank of minister.
The changes came after the Ethiopian government reached a ceasefire agreement with the Tigray forces last November which has put an end to over 2 years of conflicts in the region.
