The head of Ethiopian Trade ministry Gondar regional office, Bizuayehu Demissie, has said that Ethiopia has successfully exported 62 million US dollars’ worth of agricultural products through the Sudanese port to China, Europe, and other countries.
However, following the international price fluctuation on sesames and series of unrest last year, there has been a reduction in Ethiopia’s large portion of goods that are been exported through the Sudanese port.
The regional head officer disclosed the intention of the Ethiopian government to form a quality control and inspection office at its border crossing with Sudan to facilitate speedy exports of goods through Port Sudan.
Previously, Ethiopia exports and imports it goods only through it neighboring country Djibouti based on the close relationship which they have built over the years. But with the fast growing economy and increasing interconnection with the global economy, Ethiopia has begun to engage other ports in Sudan and Somaliland to ensure export of more products.
