The Egyptian Minister of Health, Hala Zayed, has extended a message of goodwill and praise for the Chinese coronavirus vaccine Sinopharm after the country recently received a 300,000-dose shipment of the substance as a donation from China.
Speaking to reporters in Egypt, Zayed disclosed that Egypt is working with the Chinese government to become a producer of the vaccine in order to meet up with supply locally and abroad across the African continent.
Appraising the effectiveness of the vaccine, Zayed said: “Scientifically, it is considered one of the strongest vaccines”
Previously, Egypt had received a shipment of 350,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine as well as 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca jab, joining a number of other nations depending on external aid to help sustain the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the event, the plan for the production of the vaccine is achieved and Egypt becomes a manufacturer, it will greatly help local efforts as President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi noted last month that his country needs at least 70 million doses of coronavirus vaccines to inoculate 30-35 million people.
