The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) are leading as the best performing Nigerian public institution, barely 3 days into the African Leadership Magazine Poll for the best Performing Nigerian Public Institution.
The poll, which is tagged: Good Performance Poll on Nigerian Public Institution, is one of the strategic engagement tool of the African Leadership Magazine Group aimed at engendering healthy competition, promoting good performance, and fostering excellent service delivery among public institutions in Nigeria.
The EFCC and INEC are at a tie as the two institutions have polled 27% of the vote casts in the poll. The Nigeria Immigration Service is closely trailing with nearly 27% of the vote casts, while the Nigeria Communications Commission polled 18% as at press time.
In the last one year, following the assumption of office of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, the EFCC has been in the news for stepping up efforts in the fight against corruption. The country has witnessed an unprecedented level of exposure and prosecution of high-profile corruption and individuals in the country.
Relatedly, INEC has also conducted a number of elections in the state in the last one year which has been adjudged by many as relatively free, fair and credible.
The results of the poll shows the popularity of the two institutions in Nigeria as Nigerians recognise and support their efforts in crusade against graft and in promoting democracy in the country.
As part of the terms of the poll, five (5) of the shortlisted institutions, with the least vote, will be dropped from the poll every 7 days until we have the last five. Participators are expected to vote based on any of the following three criteria:
Firstly, the public institution that has been accountable and transparent in carrying its mandate in line with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s posturing of Zero-tolerance for corruption;
secondly, the public institution that has been ingenuous and innovative in its processes, systems and procedures, positively delivering on its mandate, as it affects the citizenry;
thirdly, the public institution that has in the last one year executed developmental projects or policies that have enhanced the lives of the people of Nigeria.
