At the 14th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2024, Dr. Olusegun (Segun) Ogunsanya, a former Group CEO of Airtel Africa PLC, received the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award from the prestigious, Dr. Ogunsanya is acknowledged for his extraordinary leadership and strategic acumen, which have made a substantial impact on the African telecoms sector.

 

Dr. Segun Ogunsanya’s illustrious career is marked by his exceptional leadership and strategic vision. As the former Group CEO of Airtel Africa PLC and the only Black CEO of a FTSE 100 company on the London Stock Exchange, he propelled the company to unprecedented financial success. Segun’s journey with Airtel Africa began in 2021 when he assumed the role of Managing Director and Group CEO. Under his stewardship, the company achieved a milestone $5 billion in revenue. His strategic initiatives and innovative approaches bolstered market share and operational efficiency, firmly establishing Airtel Africa as a telecommunications leader across the continent.

 

Before his tenure at Airtel Africa, Segun served as the Managing Director and CEO of Airtel Nigeria from 2012 to 2021. During this period, he expanded the network’s footprint, driving substantial growth in customer base and revenue. His deployment of cutting-edge technologies and customer-centric strategies elevated service standards and set new benchmarks within the industry.
