First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) Foundation has recently donated 146 pairs of school shoes to Kgomodiatshaba Primary School as part of efforts to ease the burden of parents with children of school age.
Minister of Education and skills Development, Dr Unity Dow, praised the foundation for its commitment towards helping pupils have access and equity to education by assisting parents in catering for children school needs.
Dr Dow said there were over 31 000 primary school going pupils, adding that the FNBB donation would make a huge difference.
The Branch Manager FNBB Airport Junction Ms Gadifele Kgosidialwa, said they recognised that a child was not the responsibility of the biological parents alone but of the entire community and that is why FNBB Foundation works in partnership with communities to ensure that children are appropriately taken care of and grow to be responsible citizens.
Ms Kgosidialwa further stated that the well-being and security of children is a top priority constantly being deliberated by the trustees of the FNBB Foundation which is the bank’s corporate social responsibility trust fund established in 2001 for the sole purpose of aiding beneficiaries who are in need and deserving of assistance.
The manager said last year FNBB made a pledge to donate school shoes to students annually across the country. “In 2015 we gave away 3500 pairs of shoes. This year we are donating 3724 pairs of schools shoes. Today we are here sharing this wonderful gesture with 146 students in Kgomodiatshaba primary.”
The school head, Ms Ogomoditse Mhapha, said they were grateful for the donation because it would help some students who went to school barefooted. She said that made it difficult for them to listen attentively in class.
