African Disabilities Forum (ADF) has concluded an agreement that would enable it to build its headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The agreement was signed here yesterday.
The forum, which was established at the Desmond Tutu Conference Center in Nairobi, Kenya, in October 2015, does not have a permanent seat.
Speaking at the signing of the agreement, Head of ADF Program Coordination, Birhanu Teferra, said that opening the headquarters of ADF in Ethiopia demonstrates the commitment of the country towards fulfilling its social responsibility.
According to the head, the establishment of the headquarters near the Africa Union and other international organizations will help it follow closely their deliberations and issuance of rules and regulations that affects the disabled.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Tewolde Mulugeta said the establishment of the headquarters in Addis Ababa would play a crucial role with regards to respecting the benefits and rights of the disabled across Africa.
Besides, it would enable countries to gain experiences on supporting disabilities, facilitating better conditions and other amenities for disabled persons.
African Disabilities Forum (ADF) consists of 48 member associations and 34 African countries, including Ethiopia.
The pan-African forum is created to unify and amplify the voice of persons with disabilities in Africa and strengthen the technical capacity of their organizations.
