NIMET’s Anosike to Receive the African Public Sector Leadership Impact Award at the African Persons of the Year Ceremony, Morocco 2025

The African Leadership Magazine is pleased to announce that Professor Charles Anosike, Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), will be honoured and presented with the African Public Sector Leadership Impact Award during the highly anticipated 14th African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year (POTY) Ceremony. This distinguished event will take place on February 21-22, 2025, at the Casablanca Marriott Hotel, Morocco, bringing together influential leaders from across Africa and beyond.

 

As part of his recognition, Professor Anosike will also be inducted into the African Leadership Council, a highly exclusive network of prominent African leaders. He will join a distinguished cohort of leaders, including H.E. Andry Rajoelina, President of Madagascar; Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda; H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, former President of Tanzania; and H.E. Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, Nigeria, during the event in Morocco.

Now in its 14th year, the African Leadership The Magazine Persons of the Year Ceremony continues to be the premier annual event for celebrating exceptional leadership and the achievement of pan-African objectives. The 2025 edition is expected to attract over 400 in-person delegates, with online streaming reaching more than one million followers across the magazine’s social media platforms. Professor Anosike’s recognition is a testament to his exemplary leadership in advancing Nigeria’s meteorological services, enhancing climate resilience, and driving innovation in weather forecasting and environmental monitoring. Under his leadership, NIMET has undergone transformative reforms, improving data accuracy, and forging key international partnerships. Notably, his efforts have led to the successful metadata evaluation of weather observation stations, significantly strengthening NIMET’s operational capacity. His leadership has also played a pivotal role in enhancing Nigeria’s compliance with international aviation meteorology standards, resulting in improved flight safety, operational efficiency, and the provision of more accurate and timely weather forecasts that support air navigation and flight operations.

In addition to his operational achievements, Professor Anosike has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to human capacity. development. His focus on staff training and securing the accreditation of the National Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology (NMIST) by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) reflects his forward-thinking approach to workforce empowerment. His dedication to technological innovation is evident in the restoration of NIMET’s data centre, the launch of a revamped interactive website, and the unveiling of a state-of-the-art digital weather studio.

 

Professor Anosike’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance has set new standards for excellence in public service. This award, therefore, not only recognises his exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development but also underscores his significant impact on the broader African continent.
