New York, USA— Her Excellency Leticia Ocampos, First Lady of Paraguay and renowned architect, has been awarded the prestigious Global Female Impact Leadership (GFIL) Award at the Global Power Women Yearbook (GPWY) 2024 event. The ceremony took place at the Graduate Centre, City University of New York (CUNY), on September 25, 2024. H.E. Ocampos was recognised for her visionary leadership and unwavering advocacy for early childhood development, women’s empowerment, and the inclusion of individuals with disabilities. She delivered a powerful address as one of the keynote speakers.

Leadership and Advocacy
Born in Asunción, Paraguay, Leticia Ocampos has an extensive background in architecture and design, leading projects that focus on environmental preservation and urban renewal. She has successfully merged her passion for landscape architecture with a commitment to creating social change.

Ocampos has been married to President Santiago Peña of Paraguay for 27 years, and they have two children, Gonzalo and Costanza. As President of ALMA, the Alliance of Spouses of Heads of State and Representatives of Latin America, she collaborates with First Ladies across the region to address key issues affecting women, children, and adolescents. Ocampos is particularly devoted to promoting early childhood development, ensuring that children receive the education and care needed to thrive. Her presidency in ALMA will culminate at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) 79 in New York, where she will pass on the leadership role and shift focus toward fostering partnerships with UNICEF and TheirWorld.

Transforming Asunción
In addition to her role as First Lady, Leticia Ocampos is spearheading an ambitious urban revitalisation project in Asunción’s historic center. As the city prepares to celebrate its 500th anniversary in 2037, Ocampos leads efforts to restore public spaces, enhance the city’s aesthetics, and stimulate the local economy. This landmark project reflects her commitment to ensuring a vibrant and prosperous future for all Paraguayans.

Advocate for Inclusion and Special Olympics
A passionate advocate for inclusion, H.E. Ocampos serves as an ambassador for the Special Olympics, promoting the participation of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities in sports and society. She is also set to serve as godmother of the Latin American Special Olympics Games in 2024, to be held in Asunción. Her advocacy aims to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to healthcare and opportunities to engage in sports, which she views as a powerful tool for social transformation.
