New Music Friday: Afrobeats is Dominating Global Music

  • 0

Afrobeats is more than just a genre; it embodies the culture and way of life in Africa. With New Music Friday, we present the latest and most exciting releases in African music, showcasing the vibrancy of the Afrobeats scene.

Our first highlight is Oxlade, an emerging star who is solidifying his place in the global music industry with his debut album OFA (Oxlade From Africa). This long-awaited project reflects his journey through the industry—a mix of triumphs, challenges, controversies, and defining moments that have contributed to the rise of Afrobeats.

In 2022, Oxlade was introduced on stage by global icon Usher at the Global Citizen Festival, a defining moment for both artists and the audience. This followed the success of Oxlade’s viral hit KU LO SA, which later featured a remix with Cuban-American pop star Camila Cabello. The album itself blends vintage, classical African sounds with modern Afrobeats and includes collaborations with prominent artists such as Bobi Wine, Fally Ipupa, Flavour, Wande Coal, Ojahbee, Tomi Owó, and Sarkodie.

Nigerian comedian-turned-musician Nasboi has also released his debut project, In Nasboi I Trust, featuring collaborations with major African music stars including 2Baba, Chike, Falz, Pheelz, Wande Coal, and Joeboy. Nasboi’s journey from being signed by veteran actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde to creating skits, and now fulfilling his dream of making music, is a testament to perseverance and self-belief. It’s a reminder that dreams can indeed come true.
