Dr. Zafivanona Lainkana, the esteemed Director General of the Madagascar Customs Commission, has been awarded the prestigious African Leadership Commendation award at the African Leadership Persons of the Year Award Ceremony in recognition of his outstanding leadership and visionary contributions to public administration. The event, themed “Building Resilient African Economies,” was held on March 14th and 15th.
With a distinguished background in economic sciences and extensive professional training, Dr. Lainkana has exemplified exceptional dedication to principles of accountability and ethical governance throughout his illustrious career. His relentless pursuit of excellence has not only transformed the Madagascar Customs Commission but has also significantly contributed to the advancement of Madagascar’s public sector.
Armed with a Doctorate in Economic Sciences from the esteemed University of Antananarivo, Dr. Lainkana further honed his expertise through a professional Master’s degree in Economic Policy Management, endorsed by the World Bank. Additionally, his commitment to continuous learning and professional development led him to acquire a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Customs Administration and participate in prestigious international programs such as the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) facilitated by the United States Department of State.
Before assuming his current role as Director General, Dr. Lainkana amassed invaluable experience in both the private and public sectors. His transition from the private sector to public service was driven by a fervent desire to revitalize Malagasy public administration and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the nation. Starting as an Inspector within the Customs Administration, Dr. Lainkana’s exemplary performance propelled him to successive leadership roles, ultimately culminating in his appointment as Director General.
Renowned for his unwavering integrity and commitment to excellence, Dr. Zafivanona Ernest Lainkana has championed a culture of ethics and professionalism within the Malagasy Customs Commission. The award ceremony, expected to draw over 300 attendees, will feature engaging roundtable panel discussions, keynote addresses, and talks about partnerships and investments, providing a platform for thought-provoking dialogue and collaboration. Additionally, winners of the ALM Persons of the Year awards will be celebrated, accompanied by the unveiling of the special POTY edition of African Leadership Magazine.
