The Charge d’affaires of Ethiopian Embassy, Mr. Alemu Gesuma has charged African leaders to always embrace good governance that will bring progress and development to their people. The Charge d’affaires made the call in chat with the Associate Editor of the African Leadership Magazine team recently at the Embassy’s office in Abuja, Nigeria.
Mr. Alemu stated that there are many things to be corrected in terms of leadership in Africa. He maintained that leaders should strive to promote peace and stability within the continent as that would enhance unity and progress among countries in the continent.
“The story of Africa has changed. It is not like in the days of the world wars. The future of Africa is very bright as we can see with the recent developments. The good news is that the conflict between African countries is very minimal. We know we have challenges of insecurity and insurgency, but for this, if peace and stability is assured in Africa, if the youths are allowed to play their role, sure we would rule the world soon.” Mr. Alemu stated.
He stressed that the issue of stay-put to government should be discouraged among leaders and plurality has to take place. According to him, good governance is the key to fostering good economy and progress.
“Development depends on good governance. That is what has been missing in many countries of the continent. Good governance is the only key that can unlock the potentials of the continent. African leaders must take that courage to deliver electoral promises to the people and also create conducive environment for investors. Africa has gone beyond just seeking for aids; Africa should be seen as partners by the western countries and not beggars.”
In his response, the Associate Editor of the African Leadership Group thanked the Charge d’affaires for his warmth reception and his efforts towards his commitment to sustaining the relationship between Nigeria and his country. He also delivered the Group’s message of hope and peace to the government and people of Ethiopia as they prepare for their forthcoming elections come may, while assuring him of the group’s readiness to continue promoting the developmental strides of African leaders and the continent as a whole.
“African Leadership Magazine Group is very much committed to promoting development, good governance, entrepreneurship and innovation, which is what, has made Ethiopia one of the leading economies today in Africa”. He stated.
