A clergywoman, serial entrepreneur, and businesswoman, Dr. Helen Oritsejafor, Co-Pastor of the Word of Life Bible Church, located in Warri, Delta State – Nigeria, will be conferred with the African Philanthropist of the Year Award by the African Leadership Magazine in recognition of her consistency, commitment and continuous efforts towards expanding educational opportunities to the poor, combating poverty and increasing the standards of living of the people.
Dr Oritsejafor will be formally honoured and decorated with the instruments of the honour during the 10th edition of the annual African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards presentation ceremony on February 26th, 2022, at The Dorchester, Mayfair London, the United Kingdom. She will be receiving the award alongside the winners in various categories including President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi as the African of the Year 2021; President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya as the African Political Leader of the Year 2021; President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana as the African Peace & Security Leader of the Year 2021; Egyptian Football Star, Mo Salah, as ALM Young person of the Year 2021, alongside five other distinguished Africans.
As an entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Oritsejafor is a woman of vast knowledge and experience in the world of business both locally and internationally. She is the founder of several companies in Nigeria, including the Eagle Flight Micro Finance Bank Limited, the Eagle Wings Secured Insurance Brokerage Limited and the African Broadcasting Network. She is also the founder of “A Hand to the Needy Foundation”, and the Eagle Hand International and Foundation, through which she effectively carries the responsibilities of a mother as she reaches out and positively impacts the lives of the needy, homeless, and poor.
In April 2021, Dr. Oritsejafor provided financial support to small and medium scale enterprises that were grossly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic with start-up capital ranging from N300,000 to N500,000 respectively. She also empowered about 500 widows with cash and food items in October 2021 and is presently still empowering over 3000 market women in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria to keep them mobilized on the social strata and help boost their trade and income.
The African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year, which is in its 10th year, is an annual award reserved for distinguished Africans who have blazed the trail in the year under review. The 2022 edition will provide a platform to celebrate the continent’s purveyors of hope – business, political and diplomatic leaders, as well as those from other spectrums of the society, who are helping us to see possibilities, and engender growth in the post-COVID era.
