The stage was now set for the other Africans of the year winners and the big award of the day, the ‘’African of the Year Award’’ was announced. This category is always reserved for one African that is believed to have made the most significant impact of the year. This year, the African of the year category was meritoriously won by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
His Excellency, Nana Addo Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana presented the second keynote with the theme; Rethinking Youth Development Priorities in Africa. Other Persons of the year category winners include; H. E Mrs Graca Machel, Founder Graca Machel Trust Foundation, Hon. Samuel Tweah, Minister of the Finance Republic of Liberia, Dr Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Business Leadership and CEO Award winners.
Besides the Persons of the year categories, another key highlight of the event was the business leaders and CEO Awards. This award goes to honour eminent Africans who have set the pace in business administration in the year under review. These business leaders who were simultaneously honoured during the virtual event were also inducted into the ALM CEO Hall of Fame. Some of the awardees for this category include; Dr Teni Adesanya, Chairman of Oxford Group International who received the African Business Excellence Award as well as a congressional commendation from the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus in the USA, Dr. Kojo Essien Mensah-Abrampa, Director General, National Development Planning Commission Ghana, Mr Eder Pale, founder and CEO of Mozhandling Mozambique, amongst others.
The special highlight of the occasion was the presentation video of the -Top African American Leaders 2020 showcase and unveiling of the special African Leadership Magazine edition on the African Persons of the Year.
