According to Unicef, hand-washing with soap, when done correctly, is crucial in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19), but millions of people have no ready access to a place to wash their hands.
To this end, amidst the rampage of the deadly novel coronavirus in Tanzania, a local entrepreneur, in efforts to curb the spread of the virus in the country, has innovated a hand-washing tool of its kind.
Mr Jonas Urio, a resident of Manyara Region, has come out to make his entrepreneurship skills useful, his innovation was officially recognized recently by the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The Minister, Innocent Bashungwa who received the hand-washing tool praised the entrepreneur for his commitment toward containing the spread of COVID-19 in Tanzania.
Mr Bashungwa admitted that the device was good and could be used by public and private institutions and is essential for providing people with hand-washing services in a time like this.
Mr Urio also appreciated the ministry for its support from the beginning of the innovation to its conclusion.
“I humbly received the advice from the minister and his deputy on how to improve this device.
I am grateful to learn that both of them have been thrilled by my innovation and I promise to improve it to reach the market and help citizens in the fight against coronavirus,” he said.
Unicef reminds members of the public of the importance of handwashing as a key preventive measure against Covid-19 across the world.
