Egypt’s Aviation Ministry has begun finalizing the preparations to open the Sphinx Airport (IATA SPX), west of Cairo to become the 33rd Egyptian airport.
Construction work on the airport began in 2016, and was registered and calibrated by the ICAO.
The airport is located at the Cairo-Alexandria desert road, located close to the Giza Pyramids and Grand Egyptian Museum.
The Sphinx International Airport will help relieve pressure on the Cairo International Airport and air traffic to the heart of Cairo. The airport serves Giza, al-Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October city as well governorates such as Beni Suef, Fayoum and more.
A committee from the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation inspected the airport on Tuesday and was briefed on all stages of operation before the official opening, which is expected to be within the coming weeks.
