The move of the Rwandan government to ensure that the country continues to experience technological transformation is still moving with full drive as it has renewed its contract with Japan to continue promoting cooperation in the ICT sector.
The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Japan and Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (MiTEC), Rwanda was signed on Tuesday with the aim of promoting knowledge sharing with regards to innovative technologies, services and applications.
Vice Minister of the Japanese Ministry, Masahiko Tominaga mentioned that this new deal is aimed at consolidating all cooperation existing between the two countries with regards to exchanging experts, professionals, delegations and visits which will help to improve human resource development.
He added that the activity will strengthen relations the industrial, academic sectors as well as the develop government agencies in both countries.
In a statement by the Minister of Information Technology and Communications, Jean de Dieu Rurangirwa, he said “The signing of this agreement is going to be beneficial for both countries, there will be sharing of various aspects in the field of ICT. Technology has been impacting lives of our people and the whole world. Our country has embraced it as a drive for quick development. Collaborating with other countries is a better way to share and learn from each other to cope up with the world’s ICT development”.
He also commended the Japanese companies that have shops setup in Rwanda as well as those with partnerships with local firms and mentioned that the Japanese government has provided young Rwandans with up to 40 scholarships in the field of ICT.
The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on the sideline of the Transform Africa Summit with a host of Japanese ICT-based companies in attendance and showcasing most of their innovative technologies.
