With the ICT sector growing to include both genders and provide them with the right facilities to reach their fullest potentials, the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMA) will celebrate the International Girls in Information and Communications Technology Day in Nairobi, Kenya.
To celebrate the day, the GSMA will organize an event that will feature representatives from the mobile and tech industries to talk to students of the local primary and secondary schools in Nairobi.
This move by the Global System for Mobile Communications is part of its planned series of events that is targeted at encouraging women to study and explore career opportunities in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) areas. This is also expected to ensure that women contribute greatly to the development of the country via women’s participation in the technology sector.
The International Telecommunications Unions has organized the International Girls in Information and Communications Technology day for five years with the support of the GSMA.
The day is being celebrated across the world and has events being organized by GSMA offices in Atlanta, Barcelona, Dubai, Hong Kong and London.
Director General of GSMA, Mats Granryd has said in a statement that the future successes of most tech industries will rest in the ability of each nation to attract talented women and that the company hopes to inspire a new generation of young women to become the industry’s leaders.
