Nigerian women have received a backbone from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women to vie for any elective positions in the 2019 general elections.
This decision was disclosed recently by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka the UN Women Executive Director, on her second visit to Nigeria this year.
During her first visit to Nigeria in July, Mlambo-Ngcuka pushed for avenues to water-down the various challenges faced by girls and women in the country.
However, in the recent visit, he met with the Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Tijjani Bande and the Deputy Permanent Representative, Amb. Samson Itegboje, claiming that there is a need to increase the participation of women in politics and governance in Nigeria.
“We also were in Nigeria to discuss the issue of women’s participation in politics,”
