Africa holds 65% world’s arable land, 10% fresh water – UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme)
Also, Svein Tore Holsether, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Yara International and agro-allied company made a statement that is worthy of note; “While we still see the potential for increasing productivity and sustainability of European agriculture, the greatest potential we see is in Africa,”
These facts and statements should be seen as a wakeup call for all of us to get to work and leverage our vast agricultural resources to create jobs and provide food that will not only feed our continent but also the rest of the world.
To accomplish this, we must transit from subsistence farming to large scale mechanized farming and make provisions to prevent the damage of our farm products which accounts for a loss of about $48bn each year across the continent.
