The government of Gauteng, the North province of South Africa, recently opened a new R122 million Sinenhlanhla Primary School which is the 49th to be opened since 2014.
Early this year, the government took a deliberate task to construct a new school every month in the townships to help build the “township economy”.
The new school will accommodate a total of 1200 children from grade R to grade 7, and it was built with a roof insulation that reduces energy loss from the building. It has about 28 classrooms, a library, a multipurpose hall, science laboratory and the nutrition centre.
The construction of the new school has helped to improve the local economy of the province.
Reports show that about 270 people benefited throughout the construction phase of the school. In the community where the school was built, 145 males, 24 females, 99 youth and a disabled person benefitted during construction of the school, through job opportunities provided to them and skills training offered during the construction.
According to Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi, “The provision of schools with modern facilities in townships will go a long way to improve and transform the quality of education in the townships. It will also change the township economy,” and this is what the government is putting in place to improve Gauteng Provincial Government.
