The African Leadership Magazine invites you to the International Summit on Public Accountability and Transparency in Africa, billed for 23rd-24th December, 2017 in the capital city of Pretoria- South Africa.
The African Leadership Magazine is organising the summit being a platform for knowledge sharing, international interactions, lively thought-provoking discussions and opportunity to query and challenge assumptions surrounding developments in emerging economies, amongst Africa’s leading public institutions and multinational organizations.
The linkage between transparency, public accountability and economic development is quite crucial. It is indeed a paradox that most African nations are described in many international reports as rich in human capital and natural resources, but classed among the world’s 20 poorest countries, thus; confirming that there is a wide gap between revenue generation, appropriation, utilisation, transparency and the effect on development. Public accountability and transparency of the government owned sectors are vital contribution to the democratic quality of the state and key prerequisite to stability and security. The new implications further created by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and contemporary global trends particularly to the developing nations of Africa, therefore suggest a constant multilateral engagement and commitment of key stakeholders to realize change on a global scale.
The summit which is designed to offer a podium for prominent stakeholders to share key information and participate in more focused and in-depth discussions on issues relating to transparency and public accountability as a vehicle for championing innovative, inclusive and sustainable development agenda for the continent will bring together individuals, institutions, leaders, politicians, academics, businesses, diplomats, major Think-Tanks on US-Africa relations and a full suite of the local and international media.
