About 30 women from across Ganta City in Nimba County have recently received training on Accessing Information by the Carter Center.

The one-day training, which was held in Ganta at the weekend, brought together women from Ganta and its immediate environs to upgrade their skills and create awareness in accessing information.

Giving an overview of the exercise at the close of the training, an official of Carter Center, Madam Cerue K. Garlo, said the awareness training was based on a survey carried out by the Center and partners, which shows that women in Liberia are not accessing information as compared to their male counterparts.

Madam Garlo attributed the situation to little or no awareness conducted for women across the country to explore their minds about the Freedom of Information (FOI) law and its importance.

The Carter Center official disclosed that during the training, participants informed her that they have always wished for an opportunity that would broaden their knowledge and skill in assessing information in keeping with the FOI law.

At the start of the training, the women pointed out that they are anxious to access information on the Free and Compulsory Education, Land Ownership Rights, the processes leading to acquiring birth, death and marriage certificates as well as the processes involved in registering and paying business taxes from the Commerce Ministry.

In her remarks, Madam Oretha Paye, a participant, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, thanked the organizer and facilitators for the training and said it further broadened their knowledge in requesting and find information
