Chairperson of the African Union Commission Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has recently advised African nations to increase the participation of youth and women in the drive towards achieving Agenda 2063.
Speaking at the closing session of the “Africa Development Week” in Addis Ababa, Dr. Zuma said “the success of both agenda 2063 and the SDGs can only be guaranteed with full involvement of women and youth.”
Empowerment of women is not act of charity, she indicated, adding women are rather essential ingredient to the success of Africa`s development.
The Chairperson in particular called for nurturing the spirit of Pan-Africanism which she said is also a major asset in achieving Agenda 2063.
Africa must not forget “African solidarity and the spirit of Pan-Africanism” to achieve agenda 2063, the Chairperson further stressed.
Dr. Zuma urged member state countries to domesticate agenda 2063 with their national plan to achieve African economic transformation and change the lives of Africans.
According to ECA Executive Secretary Carlos Lopes who spoke on the occasion “We had a great opportunity for us to put in the agenda this need for scrutiny and need for alignment between Africa`s priorities and interests and we have body of resolutions for that achievement”.
Regional integration, migration, corruption and climate change were among the priority areas for discussion at the “Africa Development Week”.
African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration and African Ministers of Finance Planning and Economic Development were all involved.
The meetings ended by adopting 24 resolutions focusing on ways to achieve African priorities on industrialization, inter African trade, agriculture and agro processing.
